“Broadway, It’s Not Just For Gays Any More!” — The opening of last night’s Tonys.

The best line? “It’s not just for gays, the gays and the Jews, and cousins in from out of town you have to amuse…”

Because I’m still on a major Tony Award high and want it to keep my buoyant through Monday.

Notes

With the Golden Globe nominations out today, I should have a wealth of material to blog about. But I’m tired and the snowy weather has made my desire to hibernate overpower my need to blog my feeeeeeelings about all this. (Plus I have Despicable Me on DVD and really, I want to hunker down with the minions.)
When the Golden Globes roll around, they are my favourite award show to watch. (The Emmys run a photo finish second place.) TV and movie actors all gathering in one room to receive awards, present awards or just get sloshed with their friends and co-workers - what’s not to love about that!? But this year’s nominations have me confused. They’re just plain wonky!! Instead of structured grievances and celebratory comments, I’m going with some bullet points here. Just off the top of my head and not necessarily all my thoughts…some have to roll around in there and stew awhile longer.
Yay, Jim Parsons gets a second nod again!
There’s an alarming lack of NPH in these nominations
I wish Despicable Me could win Best Animated Filme…sadly Woody and Buzz will trump Minions, Jason Segel and unicorn jokes
Piper Perabo?!?! For Covert Affairs!?! Except no. No no no no no.
The Golden Globes is really not vampire-friendly eh? No, I’m not talking about Twilight; but I would like to raise a friendly “ahem? True Blood?” (Ok, and yes, Vampire Diaries….there’s some excellent plot development there! And acting!)
Friday Night Lights should really get some love. If the Emmys can give it, so can you Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Leonardo DiCaprio is never going to win a big award. Sigh. That’s a tough break.
YES! SCOT CAAN! (Best thing about Hawaii 5-0)
That Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy category is REALLY hurting for some candidates. Let’s give that award to The Kids Are Alright and call it a day there. The Tourist? Alice in Wonderland? Burlesque?? (Yes, I loved Burlesque, but I’m practically a gay man. And I know the difference between campy love and GOOD film love.)
Emma Stone! Whoop! (Remind me why Easy A couldn’t go into the Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy category? Pretty sure it’s more “comedic” than The Tourist.)
Ugh. I’m SO OVER 30 Rock being nominated for awards.
And now that I’ve got all that off my mind, movie time!!
